FLOODLIGHT FAILURE ADDS TO BAYS WOES
Due to a catastrophic floodlight failure last nights game against Trafford had to be called off. In spite of working normally for an hour before the game was due to start the lights failed just before kick-off and despite numerous attempts couldn't be re-started. The referee eventually took the decision to call the game off. As well as being frustrating to all of those who made the effort to travel to the game the call off will hit the club hard financially.
Colwyn Bay Managing Director Darren Cartwright comments 'its extremely frustrating for the supporters, management and players of both clubs alike when incidents like this happen and we can only apologise to those who made the effort to get to the game last night. The club has spent thousands of pounds on the maintenance and servicing of the floodlights and associated electrics over the past few seasons in order to help prevent things like this happening. Yet we seem to of experienced a catastrophic failure of the floodlights just before kick off.'
'Its certainly been a very testing season for us so far with burst water pipes, high winds and vandalism causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage and now this but the club has a proud history of recovering from setbacks and we will once again bounce back from this'
The club is now concentrating its efforts on rectifying the fault with the floodlights ahead of next tuesday nights home game against Warrington (KO 7.45).
Further updates will be issues in due course.

Colwyn Bay Football Club have listened to supporters feedback and are now pleased to announce the launch of a brand new interactive FansZone section which has been designed as a one stop place to pull together all the latest CBFC news from our local media as well the latest UniBond league news. The most exciting new feature is the addition of exclusive video coverage, providing the interactive platform that fans have cried out for since the closure of the previous “fans forum”.
A great deal of time has been spent in developing a modern, updated format and as such the new section will include;
- Match Highlights
- Interviews
- Latest Scores
- Local & National Media Updates
- Exclusive Interactive Content
We will be looking to add match high lights and post match interviews on a regular basis, making this section of our website one of the most interactive places on the non-league football scene.
What about the forum? Well that is also part of the package, but unlike the old forum, this one is now under the full control of the club.
Several features will be updated as well as new items which will be added daily, so check back regularly to see the changing look of the FansZone.
At launch, we have included an interview with Neil Young which was taken after the Curzon Ashton win on Monday night. An interview will also take place after the Halifax game today and be uploaded after the game for fans to get the reaction from the boss himself after the game.
The FansZone is available for free until the end of the season when it will then be a charged for service to help towards maintenance costs. Any such charges will be kept as low as possible and will help contribute towards keeping the FansZone the most interactive, feature packed section of any non-league side.

FOOTBALLERS ENCOURAGE SMOKERS TO KICK THE HABIT
As a kick off to local No Smoking Day activities the Conwy and Denbighshire Local Public Health Team is sponsoring two football matches to raise awareness of the day.
Colwyn Bay FC will take on Warrington Town at 7:45pm on Tuesday 3 March, while Rhyl FC will play Neath Athletic at 2:30pm on Saturday 7 February.
Ann Evans, Senior Public Health Practitioner, Conwy and Denbighshire Local Public Health Team, National Public Health service for Wales (NPHS) said: “Everyone knows the risks to health of smoking and yet 27 per cent of men and 24 per cent of women in Wales still smoke.
“Smoking kills around 6000 people in Wales every year and it is the single most preventable cause of premature death.
“We are sponsoring these football matches to encourage people that there’s no better time than national No Smoking Day to kick the habit for good.
“The benefits of quitting are immediate whatever age you are. Within weeks your breathing will improve and you will begin to feel cleaner and healthier. The risk of serious illness starts going down immediately and this continues as your body recovers.”
The matches will highlight the action being undertaken in the two counties to promote No Smoking Day. Players of both clubs will support the Conwy and Denbighshire Local Public Health Team on dedicated No Smoking Day stands at Morrisons stores in Rhyl and Colwyn Bay on Wednesday 11 March 2009.
Players will help public health staff demonstrate the savings that could be made by stopping smoking and encourage shoppers to pledge to quit.
Ann Evans said: “As well as the benefits to their health, we are trying to help people see the benefits to their wallet of stopping smoking.
“The focus for this year’s No Smoking Day is on saving money. The economic downturn will affect everyone and little savings – like quitting smoking – can make a real difference to a monthly income. For example, a twenty-a-day smoker could save over £150 every month by giving up smoking - that could be over £2,000 a year!”
More than one million smokers in the UK will try to give up for No Smoking Day, over 20 per cent of who conquer their addiction for good. National No Smoking Day is on 11 March 2009.
The events will be sponsored by Conwy and Denbighshire Local Public Health Team, Stop Smoking Wales, Conwy County Borough Council, Denbighshire County Council, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and the Credit Union.

03-02-09: MATTY WOOD TO STAY
In what has been a busy few days, Manager Neil Young has been given yet another boost today as pacey Telford based defender, Matty Wood, has turned down an approach from Willenhall Town (UniBond First Division South) following their seven days notice of approach.
Neil Young stated “Matthew Wood has informed me he is very happy at the club and wants to stay and be part of an exciting end to the season.”
03-02-09: TRANMERE MIDFIELDER JOINS ON LOAN
Neil Young has completed his second signing of the week after today completing the signing of Welsh Under-19 International midfielder Ashton Taylor from Tranmere Rovers who joins for a month.
Taylor, who is 18-years-old, is capable of playing in central midfield or defence and has recently signed a professional contract at Tranmere. Standing 6ft 3” tall, he is a described as being good in the air but his main asset is said to be his ability with the ball when it's on the deck.
Taylor joins as Manager Neil Young looks towards a busy February with 8 games set to be played during the month. The capture of Taylor follows the signing of Eddie Jebb from Cammell Lairds last night in a bid to strengthen the squad in order to mount a serious challenge for a play-off position.
Neil Young stated “Ash will be a very good short term signing for us, he is very highly thought of at Tranmere Rovers and has a big future in the game. Ash has been signed to assist with our push for the play offs and I’m sure alongside the lads we already have will be a great asset to us. I would like to thank Ronnie Moore and Shaun Garnett for their help in making the signing of Ashton possible.”
Leaving Colwyn Bay FC this week after talks with Neil Young are Michael Langley and Ryan Mitchell who have been released from the club. Neil Young stated "Both players have a fantastic attitude, but understandably want first team football, something that I couldn't guarantee at Colwyn Bay FC.” Neil Young and club officials would like to wish both players all the best for the future
CLUB MAKE COMPLAINT TO NONLEAGUEDAILY WEBSITE
Colwyn Bay Football Club have made a complaint to the NonLeagueDaily.com website after they re-worded a quote from our Manager Neil Young, which was in fact copied from an official club media release, to state they he had actually learnt about the availability of Eddie Jebb on their website!!!
This is in spite of the fact that negotiations had been ongoing since Thursday of last week, a full 48 hours prior to the news breaking in any media format. At no point had Neil spoken to the NonLeagueDaily with regards to the transfer. The club has kindly requested the website to revert to the original statement and to refrain from reporting in this manner in future.
The NonLeagueDaily.com website have now amended the quote to read as per the press release, which was circulated late last night.

02-02-09: EDDIE JEBB SIGNS FOR COLWYN BAY
Colwyn Bay Football Club are delighted to announce that they have beaten Welsh Premier side Bangor City for the signature of Cammell Lairds fans favourite EDDIE JEBB after a deal was agreed between both clubs today. The player signed an 18 month contract this evening.
Jebb (26) was a pivotal member of the Cammell Lairds squad since they left the West Cheshire League and embarked upon their climb up the league pyramid. Last season Jebb collected the Player's, Manager's and Supporters Club's Player of the Year awards as he helped Lairds secure runners up spot in the UniBond League Division One South. A clever, tricky and fast winger, Jebb loves to take players on and cause opposition problems on the edge of the box as he has proved so consistently over recent seasons.
Manager Neil Young said “Eddie is an exciting signing for the club and is a player who will excite the fans with his attacking play. When we realised that Eddie was on the transfer list we knew we had to make an attempt to sign him if we wanted to push on and try and make the playoffs this season and ultimately promotion. I would like to thank the board for backing my judgement on the player to pay a substantial fee for a club at our level and I’m sure over the next couple of months they will see what Eddie can bring to the team.”
02-02-09: DEANO: “WE CAN ACHIEVE SOMETHING”
Forward Dean Canning, who signed a 12 month extension to his current contract straight after his 2 goal salvo in the 6-1 demolition of Mossley on Saturday, has revealed his reasons for agreeing to commit his future to the club.
“I decided to sign for another season simply because I am really happy playing my football here at Colwyn Bay. I play under a fantastic management team and alongside a great bunch of lads. I feel that there is a huge amount of confidence growing throughout the team and a real sense that we can achieve something.”
An exciting attacking player, Canning was signed in the summer from Ashton United after Colwyn Bay agreed to pay a transfer fee has now scored 7 goals in his last 8 games for the Bay. The deal represents a turnaround for the popular player who earlier on in the season was put on the transfer list and then targeted by Curzon Ashton after a transfer bid was accepted. Following talks with Manager Neil Young and Club Officials, Dean then decided to remain at the Bay and begun to find the back of the net.
“Everybody at Colwyn Bay has made me feel welcome; the fans are a great support and really get behind us. I want to be a part of the gaffer’s plans for the future and play in a winning team”
Colwyn Bay Boss Neil Young also commented “I'm delighted Dean has agreed an extension to his contract and has bought in to both our short and long term objectives in trying to bring success to Colwyn Bay Football Club. Dean’s recent form has been excellent as has the teams and we are now starting to see the potential this current squad has as their confidence builds. |
