30-03-07: BOB TO CALL IT A DAY:
Chairman Bob Paton has officially tendered his resignation, to come into effect from the end of the season. Bob indicated to the board some time ago his intention to step down at the end of the season and the board respects his wishes. He has had a major impact on the club in the last 3 1/2 seasons and everyone recognises that without his input the club would not be where it is today. We are solvent, with an impressive Social Club and good attendances. We have an ever improving team and are ambitious to move on. Inevitably the club will now look to strengthen the board and welcome enquiries from interested parties. People can contact Vice Chairman Andy Owens at the ground or via cbfc_programme@yahoo.co.uk for a confidential discussion.
28-03-07: FANS UPBEAT:
After 2 disappointing results, the Bay bounced back to secure 3 points against Clitheroe but had to do it the hard way. Still suffering from the injuries sustained at the weekend Gary reshuffled his available players, and in a murky evening all looked good as Alex Kevan opened the scoring after 10 minutes. However in first half injury time things went sour, a disputed free kick was quickly taken catching Matt Parry out of position to give Clitheroe the equaliser. It was the last kick of the half and Matt lost his cool over the incident and was sent off. Injured Martin Crowder came off the bench and went in goal as Gary withdrew John Lawless as the team put in a disciplined 45 minutes display to protect their goalkeeper, dead leg victim Darren Wright was forced to come off the bench in the closing stages and it was his opportunism in the box that secured 3 points – although his injury prevented his trademark celebration! Character and grit were required and certainly in evidence.
26-03-07: FIRST WEMBLEY MATCH:
Club Partners Inner Frame have been commissioned by Stevenage Borough FC to provide a commemorative frame to hand to their opponents Kidderminster Harriers FC to mark the meeting of the two clubs in the final of the 2006 - 2007 FA Trophy, the frame will be presented to Kidderminster Harriers FC before kick off at the New Wembley Stadium.
What makes this event a little more special is that this will be the first competitive match to be played at the New Wembley on Saturday 12th May 2007 a fore - runner to the FA Cup Final on Saturday May 19th 2007.
25-03-07: BAY HELD AT THE END:
Missing Robbie Williams and Mark Quayle prior to kick off, and with several other players not 100%, the Bay got off to an ideal start with a goal from Tim Brandreth after 9 minutes. However the game as a spectacle went downhill after that as it became littered with free kicks, Darren Wright limped off on half time after failing to shake off an early injury and his front line partner Neil Black, who has been so influential recently, went to hospital with damaged ribs before the hour was up. The reshuffled side were clinging on at the end when ironically in injury time the visitors secured a point. The manager will be forced now to look to bring in some reinforcements as the timing of these injuries has impacted on his plans for the play off push.
25-3-07: COLWYN BAY LADIES VS WREXHAM
The game between these two teams is usually very competitive and it didn’t disappoint. Wrexham kicked off and came straight at us as we knew they would because if we won this game today we would win the league. But we wasn’t playing like league leaders at all, in fact it was the worst we had played all season, none of the girls were playing well and we just couldn't put two passes together .Unfortunately for us first half we wasn’t playing as a team and individually trying to take to much on. Luckily for us Wrexham were playing just as nervy too, but about half way through the first half our top goal scorer Emma fisher latched onto a great ball through by Aimee Todd and clocked up our first goal .Not long after from a corner from Kerry graham scored a good goal with a cracking header ,so half-time 2-0 but a very poor performance from the bay by our standards.
After a very stern half time talk and a few home truths told 2nd half was 100% better more commitment ,more talking better passing and an all round better team performance .We settled down more and started to play some good football which was great to see .Emma fisher got her 2nd goal of the game to make it 3-0 to the bay and not long after that Stacey Tradewell got what turned out to be the goal of the match and the icing on the cake with an unstoppable drive from about 20yds out into the top left hand corner of the net,all their goalie could was watch it go in .So final score 4-0 to the bay.Just to say well done ladies from both Steve and Neil for another great season and thanks for the bubbly that was nearly drank
21-03-07: DEADLINES:
Ahead of the March deadline by which the club was compelled to deal with a list of improvements to satisfy the ground grading report, everybody should celebrate that against all the odds these improvements have been made.
There has been new fencing put in place, railings to prevent spectators using any grassed areas, a new press box, a facility for female match officials, improvements to the toilet facilities as well as other cosmetic improvements in terms of signage and general appearance. All this has been completed within a tight time schedule and by the volunteers who have turned up in all weathers as part of the working parties to get the job done. Thanks are extended to them all, but there is a need to mention Colin Hart for leading the working parties, Dave Gates and John Dickinson from www.findthetrade.co.uk whose expertise has been invaluable in getting the tradesman skills on site as well as Chris Roberts from www.innerframe.co.uk who has managed the project from start to finish with such a high level of professionalism. In addition the backing of some local companies in providing materials has proven to be invaluable and these will be detailed later.
This initial work has been labelled Phase 1 and whilst a great achievement in itself a major challenge lies ahead as the work now needs to commence on Phase 2 to be completed by the end of June. This involves converting the current seated North Stand into a standing area, installing 250 seats into the covered West Stand, installing new dug outs in front of the Triact Terrace, and moving the pitch perimeter to ensure there is sufficient run offs in all places. In addition we will also need to sustain our own programme of ongoing improvements. Once again we are going to be dependant on volunteer labour but inevitably the costs for these items are going to require significant funding, please help us by spreading the word. We have had local press coverage but need to get the message to businesses that may help us with sponsorship so please make our case with the people you work with. Another easy way would be for people to take a “Bay a Seat” leaflet available at home matches or via the fundraisers page and get friends and family to sign up, or attend some of the upcoming fundraising events. We are only going to achieve this if we pull together, the lads that have been involved in the working parties will confirm it is a really positive experience so please join them if you can and help make that difference.
Meanwhile in regards team matters, Gary with one eye on the March 31st deadline for signing players is not under too much pressure to bring in new blood as the commitment from the current squad has been first rate and he has no doubt that the current players have what it takes to sustain a top 5 challenge, however with the risk of injuries he may well boost the squad to cover any possible problems in the closing stages of this season.
18-3-07: WELSH CUP SEMI-FINAL: COLWYN BAY LADIES VS CARDIFF LADIES
This was the biggest match of our history so far and our girls were well up for it.This was the first time that we got through to the semi final and we knew it was going to be a tough game. The weather conditions were atrocious with us having to withstand very strong winds and hailstones in the first half. We started the game really well with us having two or three chances early on with both Sue Harrison and Stacey Tradewell coming close on goal with Aimee Todd almost latching on to a Rhiannon Mahoney cross, but unfortunately for us due to very windy conditions we conceded 2 unlucky early goals one which Nicky Cureton tried to head out but the wind just blew it straight back into our 6 yard box and it got scrambled into the goal. The second goal was very similar.but we kept battling hard and we was playing some good football considering the conditions and the pitch was very heavy and muddy too.
Cardiff are a well organised team with quite a few welsh internationals in their squad and to that they scored 2 more goals before half time so half time 4-0 to Cardiff.
In the second half we came out with more purpose and within a few minutes from a corner from Stacey Tradewell sue Harrison went up with the Cardiff goalie and their goalie didn’t collect it properly dropped it and sue popped it in the roof of the net so now 4-1. We were now putting them under a great deal of pressure and Cardiff were getting quite frustrated and if it wasn’t for their goalie pulling off 2 or 3 good saves we could have scored a few more.with the wind now with us in this half and we was taking the game to Cardiff and they kept giving away a lot of free kicks as we were getting to them.our goalie Nathania was having a cracking game and she pulled off quite a few quality saves to keep us in the game but late on in the second half Cardiff got 2 late goals so final score 6-1 to Cardiff, but the score was a bit flattering really and our girls did both us and themselves proud and never let themselves down against a Cardiff side who were well organised and full of experience.
17-03-07: FRUSTRATION WRIT LARGE:
The Bay fell to their first defeat under Gary’s reign as a single goal defeat under controversial circumstances at Ossett dented the recent good run of form.
11-03-07: PHASE 1 NEARING COMPLETION:
Whilst there was no match this weekend, the working party redoubled its efforts to meet the looming deadline for works to be completed to satisfy the FA ground grading. Thanks to a generous donation from Central Electrical the materials to complete barrier work have been delivered and the lads were busy Sunday morning doing the preparatory work to ensure the agreed works will be completed in time.
04-03-07: SCINTILATING BAY HIT 5:
With 2 young debutants in the line up, the Bay produced champagne football at times to outplay their hosts in all areas. Dominating the game from the off, the Bay led at the break through a strike from the tightest of angles by Darren Wright before a wonder goal from Martin Crowder. John Lawless, Neil Black and Mark Quayle completed the rout to sustain what at the turn of the year seemed to most observers; an unlikely play off challenge. With Matt Parry absent through work, Zac Hibbert was drafted in from Burscough, and gave a commanding performance, whilst Paul Williams deputising for the suspended John Boardman was accomplished at left back. Liam Jones re-signed from Ruthin came on as sub; all of which adds to the competition for places.
04-03-07: COLWYN BAY LADIES VS LLANDUDNO JUNCTION
The game was in the balance due to weather conditions, but the match official gave a pitch inspection in the morning of the game and confirmed the go ahead. The Bay started the game well as did the Junction, with both teams wanting to do well, with the bay looking more likely to score than their opposition. This happened when Sue Harrison struck a low drive into the Junctions bottom right hand corner of the net to make it 1-0 to the Bay. This soon became 2-0 when Stacey Tradewell hit a fierce shot into the top of the goal from close range ,giving the Bay a cushion to sit on! But the Bay being what they are (a winning team) pressed for more ,and when Stacey Tradewell was brought down in the area. Emma Fisher dispatched the penalty with ease.
The second half started well with the Bay pushing more and more forward ,even though they were playing against the wind and rain. Emma Fisher popped up to score her second goal ,slotting the ball passed the Junction Keeper, then Kerry Graham scored her first goal of two to make the score 5-0. This score changed to 5-1 when Junction were awarded a penalty, which was basically their first shot on target. This was just a lack of concentration by the Bay and they rectified this by slotting home two more goals, Kerry Graham and Emma Fisher being the goal scorers again. This game was a good result ,keeping the Bay on top of the league and with the Welsh Cup Semi -Final to look forward to in two weeks (18th march, things are certainly looking good . Every player in the squad is playing their part, and the future of the Bay looks promising. |
