29-10-06:DAV VINDICATED:
The manager’s decision to make 4 changes to the starting line up was seen to be justified when a significantly improved performance saw the Bay beat Alsager for the second time this season. After the disappointment of recent weeks the impressive debuts by new signings Jamie Reed and Peter Smith was pleasing alongside a man of the match performance by Chris Priest. A clean sheet, greater desire in key areas and some impressive interplay at times were all factors to lift the morale of the supporters and edge the Bay back up to 6th place and the fringes of the play off places.
28-10-06:TWO NEW FACES:
Dav has signed two new forwards ahead of this afternoon’s game. Peter Smith who was previously with Crewe Alex and Macclesfield before averaging a goal every third game in the LoW with Rhyl and Newtown has been brought in along with 19 year old Jamie Reed from Wrexham on an initial one month loan. Jamie had a similar loan spell
with Glentoran last season and both players are in contention for debuts this afternoon. The club would like to thank Wrexham FC for the efforts they went through to get the paperwork sorted prior to the deadline.
27-10-06: SQUAD SHAKE UP:
With the disappointment of recent performances uppermost in his mind, Dav has set about refreshing his squad. Steve Hussey has been released and is understood to be on his way to Clitheroe, meanwhile Dav has reached agreement with 2 players who are likely to be signed ahead of Saturday’s game with Alsager.
21-10-06:FIRST HURDLE DISAPPOINTMENT:
For the 4th season in a row the Bay dropped out of the FA Trophy at the first time of asking following a 3-0 defeat at Rushall Olympic.
18-10-06:RUSHALL OLYMPIC - TIME TO RIGHT A WRONG:
Saturday sees the Bay travel to the Midlands for a tie with BGB Gas Southern League side Rushall Olympic, as well as the incentive of prize money and a trip to Wembley on offer, for older Bay fans (those with chips on their shoulders) there is a chance of revenge against our hosts newly appointed manager Joe O’Connor. The highly respected player was part of the Hednesford side that beat the Bay in the Welsh Cup Semi-Final in 1992, and those that did not witness the crucial goal Hednesford scored at Llanelian Road could not imagine the calamity that befell the Bay that night. Everyone stood aghast as the ref, confused by the FAW rule that season (that a ball played forward from inside your own half would not put a player offside-always far sighted that body!!)) ignored the liner’s flag and mistakenly allowed a goal to count (TV later demonstrated how wrong he was) despite the protests of the masses on the grass bank. (Not that it still rankles or anything!!)
16-10-06:9 POINTS OUT OF 9:
A 2-1 win at Wakefield secured the Bay their third win on the bounce, the best record so far in 2006. 2 impressive goals from John Boardman and top scorer Darren Wright ensured the Bay have the chance to extend the winning run at home to Warrington on Tuesday night. Detailed match reports can now be found on the fixtures page courtesy of Mark Williams.
14-10-06: PWLLHELI 2 - COLWYN BAY LADIES 2
Sunday 8th Oct 06
We arrived at Pwllheli full of confidence having won our three previous games, and this attitude showed right from the start.
The football the ladies played was flowing and clinical, and only for poor finishing we could have gone it at halftime with a hat full of goals, as it happened we went in 1 goal up, scored by Rhiannon Mahoney with a left foot shot from the edge of the 18 yard box.
Half time 1-0 (for the Bay)
The second half start was a shock to the ladies for within a matter of minutes Pwllheli equalised and then 20 minutes later they fell behind 2-1 for Pwllheli.
This spurred the ladies on, and even though it was a very hard and physical game by both sides, Emma fisher popped up to snatch her first of the game and the Bays second (2-2). As the match came to an end, the ladies were back in control and they felt unlucky not to take all three points. But having said that, winning three, drawing one is a great start to this season, and with the FAW cup next week (15th Oct 2.30 pm at Llanelian road)
This will be a welcome break from the league, with the ladies ready to take on all-comers.
07-10-06:BAY BOUNCE BACK:
An impressive performance saw the Bay gain revenge for their FA Cup exit at the hands of Ossett Albion. A confident lob over the keeper by Lewis Callaghan set the ball rolling in the first half and then after the Bay were guilty of spurning several chances top scorer Darren Wright settled any nerves before Stephen Hussey rounded matters off with an outstanding goal. This sent the spectators home happy after what had been a disappointing run of results. Neil Coverley returned for his first start of the season and led an impressive backline. |
