Manager happy despite defeat

FRANK SINCLAIR praised his side’s performance despite the Seagulls losing 1-0 at home to Harrogate Town tonight.
Colwyn Bay dominated much of the game and created enough chances to win, only for their finishing in front of goal to let them down.
Harrogate got the only goal of the game inside the opening 11 minutes with a James Walshaw header from a free kick and then packed men behind the ball to hang onto their lead for only their second away victory of the season.
Rob Hopley was denied by a good diving save from Harrogate keeper Phil Barnes, who also saved well from Marc Williams in the first half, but although the Bay had virtually all the play in the second half, most of their efforts at goal were off target.
Hopley had the best chance of the game with a free header from a Barnes cross, but put his effort wide from eight yards out, while late in the game Barnes made a fine save to tip a Louis Moss volley over the bar.
The manager commented: “That was the most we have dominated 90 minutes of football that I can remember and we can take lots from the performance, except, of course, the points.
“We played nearly all the game in their half, played all the football, worked really hard, created chances and it was just the execution in front of goal that stopped us getting the win we deserved.
“I’ve told the players if they can play like that against a team like Harrogate, who should be higher up the table in my opinion with the players they have, then they can play against anybody.
“I’ve got every belief in this group of players and we’ll dust ourselves down and go again.
“We had an off day in front goal and that can happen sometimes, but I am pleased with the boys for the effort they have put in for the second time in four days on a heavy pitch – I couldn’t have asked for more.”
