Astley set for debut at Colne

THE Seagulls’ will have new signing Astley Mulholland in the squad for the first time as they travel to another side chasing the promotion play-offs in free-scoring Colne on Saturday (March 25th).

Tom Schofield will need a late check on an ankle injury suffered at Ossett Town last weekend and Julian Williams has been away on holiday, but manager Phill Hadland reports everybody else is available.

The game continues a challenging run-in to the season for the Bay, with this being the second of five games in the last eight fixtures against teams in the top eight – four of whom are strong top five contenders.

The recent win against title chasing Lancaster City showed what the players are capable of achieving, and Phill Hadland’s management team will be looking for the same again.

But they will need to combat a Colne attack that has plundered 12 goals in their previous two home games.

The signing of striker Oliver Wood from Kendal Town in late December has proved a massive acquisition for the Lancashire club as he has already hit 12 goals for them, including four in the 8-0 demolition of bottom club Burscough in the past fortnight.

That followed a 4-0 success over Goole in the previous home game and has made Colne among the top three goalscorers in the division behind Farsley Celtic and Trafford.
Colne, who won promotion as North West Counties champions last season,  go into Saturday’s game two points off the play-off places  – despite being one of four clubs this week to be docked points for playing an ineligible player.
Ramsbottom (-4), Bamber Bridge  (-1) and Prescot Cables (-3) are the other clubs affected.
