Jamie Matthews scored the only goal of the game with 13 minutes remaining as Colwyn Bay secured their first win of the Skrill North season with a 1-0 victory at Stockport County. Matthews scored with an outrageous back heel following a strong run and low cross by Gareth Evans, and although the Seagulls rode their luck at times with Stockport twice hitting the post, it was a victory they deserved for a tremendous team performance in which they created a number of scoring opportunities.
“We came with a game plan to get plenty of people behind the ball to make it difficult and frustrate them (Stockport) and look to play on the break,” Frank Sinclair told Tim Channon after the game at Edgeley Park.
“We got the rub of the green when they hit the post a couple of times, but thats the luck that we didn’t have in the first two games and it evens itself out I suppose.”
