TWO late goals from Carl Lamb in the space of 90 seconds saw the Seagulls snatch a thrilling 3-2 home victory against Buxton (March 22).
The game kicked off 45 minutes late due to the traffic chaos following a major accident on the A55, and with a number of Bay players caught up in the delays manager Kevin Lynch was forced into changes to the starting line-up.
Then in a goalless first half in which Connor Hunt saved well with his feet from Spencer Harris in a one-on-one and Brad Bauress cleared off the line, the Seagulls also lost defender James Graham with an ankle ligament injury.
Buxton took the lead on 54 minutes with a shot on the turn by Bradley Barraclough from Alastair Taylor’s cross, and although Adam Morgan equalised with a superb 20 yard free kick into the top corner of the net after he had been tripped, Buxton regained the lead eleven minutes later with a Greg Young header from Jamie Green’s free kick into the area.
Buxton also put a couple of headed chances just over the bar and Hunt saved with legs again in another one-on-one.
But the game turned dramatically when Lamb put in a strong run down the right and rifled a shot past Buxton keeper Myles Wright to level the scores again on 79 minutes.
Then two minutes later Lamby got the winner with a diving header after Wright had blocked a shot from Morgan (see the goal on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyktZKAA70U&feature=share).
On a night when four of Bay’s bottom six rivalsall dropped points, the result closed the gap on the four teams immediately above them and put them back to within six points of the fifth-bottom Whitby with a game in hand.
