MANAGER Frank Sinclair has made a significant addition to his squad by signing Portuguese forward Paulo Mendes.
The player, who celebrates his 21st birthday in August, came through the football academy of FC Estrela De Amadora in Lisbon, playing in a league that boasted the likes of Porto, Benfica & Sporting Lisbon.
After a further season at Associacao Desportiva he signed contract terms with Sociedade Uniao playing in the Portuguese second tier. But he rejected further contract offers to follow his dream of playing in England and has had short spells with a number of clubs including Buckley Town, Nantwich and Vauxhall Motors.
He has had a couple of trial games with Colwyn Bay in the past month and impressed Frank in the game against Wrexham but was unable to agree a deal. However, he played again in the win against Bala earlier this week and this time terms were agreed.
“He impressed me and my staff again against Bala and I am pleased with another attacking option that he brings to the squad,” said the manager.
Paulo says his favourite position is left wing but he is also happy to play as an attacking midfielder or forward.
“I am very delighted to be joining you guys,” he said. “I believe I can bring something to the team.
“I thought we played well against Bala. We need to get to know one another, of course, but it is a great squad here and I believe we can do well.”
