THE Seagulls have beaten off competition from several other clubs to sign prolific goal scorer Rob Doran from Prescot Cables.
Although Prescot are second bottom of the table, the 25-year-old Doran, who was previously with Droylsden, has already scored 12 goals this season, including a hat-trick in a 5-0 win at Burscough, and last season was the division’s third highest scorer with 26 – including four goals in the space of 19 minutes in a 4-2 win over Harrogate Railway.
By joining the Bay he links up again with former Prescot team-mate Jack Phillips.
Interim manager Phill Hadland said he was delighted to have sewn up the deal and thanked Prescot for their co-operation in helping it go through.
“I see Rob bringing strength, pace and goals to the side and he is a tremendous signing for us,” said Phill. “The fact that he has scored that many goals in a struggling side shows his potential and I think he will compliment what we already have here and will get a lot more scoring opportunities.”
Doran is in line to make his debut against Trafford on Boxing Day.
The Bay played a practice match against Warrington Town on Tuesday evening as part of their preparations for the Trafford game and will be training again tonight (Thursday}.
“We were able to try out a few different things and had everybody in the squad involved, so it was a really useful exercise and is something we may well do again ,” said the manager.
