A GOAL in the third minute of added time saw the Seagulls beaten 2-1 at home by mid-table rivals Ramsbottom United, who leapfrog over Colwyn Bay into the top ten of the table as a result.

But the visitors owe a debt of thanks to their keeper Martin Fearon who kept his side in the game with a string of  saves in the second half.

In a goalless first half  new signing Julian Williams had the best chance of a goal when he latched onto a poor defensive pass, but was denied by a last ditch tackle in the area.

In the second half Fearon leapt to tip a Will Jones header over the bar,  made a point black range block to keep out Matt Regan’s close range shot and made another brave block at the feet of Williams.

Gaz Grant also headed wide from a corner and Danny Andrews had a shot blocked in the area before Ramsbottom broke on 71 minutes  and Gareth Seddon split the defence with a perfect pass for Ryan Salmon to score with a great finish.

Karl Wills did well to tip a Josh Asken shot over the bar, while Danny Andrews brought another good block save from Fearon before Louis Corrigan equalised for the Bay on 82 minutes with a free kick into the corner of the net for his second goal of the season after substitute Tom Schofield had been  brought down on the edge of the area.

The Bay pressed for a winner with Williams unluckily seeing his shot beat the keeper but rebound off the foot of the post, while Fearon made another outstanding diving save to beat a Will Jones volley away for a corner.

Then  deep into added time Ramsbottom broke again and Askew was left unmarked  inside the Bay area to rifle home the winner.

Manager Phill Hadland commented: “We’ve had enough chances to have won it – and good chances that we really need to be taking. But in the end poor decision making has cost us with two defenders going for the same ball and leaving their winger unmarked in the area to score. ”
