Colwyn Bay Reserves took their pre-season results to 2 wins and 1 draw as they overcome Conwy Borough U19 3-1.
Ste Neil scored within 3 minutes with a volley just outside the 6 yard box. More chances were created by The Bay where they were unlucky not to convert or some good saves from Conwy Goalkeeper kept them out. Bay led 1-0 at HT.
Second half saw wholesale changes where a lot of youth players had the chance to show stand-in Manager Matt Sampson and after conceding within 2 minutes of the restart after failing to clear from a corner.
The Bay started to play with confidence and grew into the game when on 66 minutes Adam Carpenter made a run from Centre Mid to support the strikers and arrived on the edge of the box to slot into the bottom corner with a clean strike.
5 minutes later Az Boyle scored the goal of the game picking the ball up from a deep corner, turning two players and whipping an effort from outside the 18 yard into the top right corner which the opposing keeper had no chance at stopping.
Stand in Manager Matt Sampson after the game went onto say “We have a big squad available as we look to separate the Reserves and our Development squad for the coming season. The young lads who came on today were great and after going down went on to show character and started to play our game plan from the beginning.” He continued, “I have spoken to Chris Thompson this morning and gave a report of the match and certain players and we are starting to come up with the squads but there are still some positions we haven’t set in concrete as certain players have impressed me over the last two games. We are both focusing on giving players equal opportunity and it is up to the lads in training to prove they want to be in what squad for when the season starts.”
