LOANEE striker Joe Williams has gone back to Wrexham ahead of Saturday’s final pre-season game at home to Rhyl (3pm kick off) only a week after joining the Bay squad.
The 18-year-old played the first half against Burnley last Friday, but has now returned to his parent club.
“Wrexham have been absolutely fantastic over Joe, but they wanted us to have him for six months, not the six weeks we originally thought, and from a financial and registration point of view we couldn’t commit to that length of time,” explained head of recruitment Phil Staley.
“Wrexham have been superb about it.”
The Vanarama National League club are now looking to send their youth team’s top scorer to another club on an extended loan to gain experience of playing at senior level.”
Charlie Holt, who has been training with the Bay for the past month, has also left the Seagulls after being offered a place at Leeds University, which would make attending training sessions difficult.
The manager has been able to fix him up at Clitheroe in the Evostik Division One North.
Bay’s remaining players have their final chance against Rhyl to stake a claim for a starting place in the opening league fixture at Halesowen Town next week.
Chris Sharp has trained this week and is expected to be fit after a tight hamstring ruled him out of the Burnley game.
Manager Ash Hoskin has named the following squad for the game: Chris Sanna, Wes Baynes, Sam Barnes, Jordan Fagbola, Luke Denson, John Dillon, Carl Rodgers, Robbie Booth, Cory Williams, Chris Sharp, Rob Hopley, Gaz Rees, Archie Love, Mike Lea, Brandon Zibaka, Zac Corbett and Harry Clayton.
Shaun Dowling misses the chance to face his former club as he is away on holiday.
Rhyl drew 1-1 with a Wolverhampton Wanderers team on Tuesday and will provide a competitive fixture.
Their summer signings include former Wrexham captain Dean Keates, ex-Colwyn Bay midfielder David Mannix while this week manager Gareth Owen has strengthened his defence by signing exciting attacking fullback Chay Dysart and left back Phil Doran.
After the Rhyl game on Saturday there is a comedy night in the clubhouse, with three excellent comedians on the bill. Tickets are £10 from Mike Brookes on on the door.
Doors open at 7.15pm with showtime starting at 8.15pm. The club are asking for support for this important fundraiser ahead of the new season.
