PRE-SEASON TRAINING GETS UNDERWAY
Colwyn Bay manager Dave Challinor and new assistant manager Colin Woodthorpe had a good turn out of 16 players for their first pre-season training session on Tuesday (June 15) - with a couple of old faces among a number of new ones reports Tim Channon.

Steve Aspinall and Mick McGrath both attended the session and are considering a possible return to the club, although the player-boss says he will see how everyone shapes up in pre-season before making a decision.

He is hoping to fix up a training match against a West Cheshire League side in the next fortnight so he can have a good look at everybody in match action before a number of the players start going away on summer holidays.

Most of the last season's players who have not followed Neil Young and Gary Jones to Chester have committed themselves to the Seagulls for next season, including Tim Brandreth, Lee Davey, Tom McGill, Luke Denson, Danny Grannon and contracted players Chris Sanna and Ian Sheridan - although Sanna and Sheridan will miss most of the club's pre-season games as they are away on extended breaks. I understand that reserve keeper Farai Jackson is looking for regular football elsewhere.

"We've got a number of promising young players training with us that we will be having a good look at during pre-season," reported Dave Challinor. The priority right now is to try and sign an experienced central midfielder and a centre forward who can hold the ball up and play in the likes of Shedz and Titch with their pace up front. Colin and I are working hard to try and fill those two key positions."

Colwyn Bay's first pre-season game is against Bangor City on July 3rd.
