After four years on the board, the club regret to announce that Vice Chairman and Director Andy Owens has announced his resignation due to increased work commitments in order to spend more time with his family.
Mr. Owens stated: “Following the end of the season I have taken stock of my various increasing personal commitments. As a result I feel unable to devote the time needed to serve the club. As such I will end my formal club role which will give me more time to spend with my family.
I would like to thank all those who have been so supportive to me personally and rallied to the various appeals I have made in recent seasons, especially in the difficult times we have had. The club has made massive strides in the last 4 years or so, it is something to take pride in, and without the backing from the supporters we would not be in the position we are. I look forward to taking up my spot on the terrace in the new season”
The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Andy for his valuable contribution and commitment to the club during his time on the board.

In a bid to address the number of games called off due to waterlogging Colwyn Bay FC officials today met with sports pitch maintenance experts ALS. Managing Director Darren Cartwright commented “Despite the best efforts of our Groundsman, who has worked with limited resources, it has come to the point where the pitch will need to undergo some heavy maintenance at the end of the season in a bid to bring it up to a much higher standard and therefore help us to avoid the match cancellations that we have had to endure this season and the subsequent fixture pile up. We are very confident that with the expert advice that we have taken along with the continuing support of our partners Greenthumb that we will achieve this. With the lack of quality grass pitches in the area we will also be looking to be in a position where we can also offer the use of the pitch out to the community on a more regular basis.”

With injuries and suspensions in mind, Manager Gary Finley has signed Welsh defender Steve Rowland to bolster the squad further. The tough tackling 26 year old was with Port Vale since his schooldays and was a regular in the side making over 100 appearances until his release at the start of last season when he signed for Southport in the Conference. Our thanks is also extended to all our sponsors and local businesses who's assistance has been sincerely appreciated".
22-01-08: FUNDRAISING MEETING 21/01.08 - update
Venue: Club Lounge
Meeting Summary
Last nights fund raising meeting held at the club was chaired by Club Patron John Martin. There were 8 people in attendance including John and the Chairman which was a little disappointing but considering the weather and football practice later on that evening wasn't too surprising.
John Martin kicked off the meeting by stating that in the past number of years the club has spent the summers "putting fires out" financially, dealing with problems with a total hand to mouth existence. The club has not been in a position to start planning to give a bit of a head start come the new season. This time, although there are still some ground works pending, we possibly have a chance to go one better. In the past we’ve all been guilty of maybe starting to look at the summer in May. John feels we can start earlier, planning events and fundraising a bit better.
John explained some of the ideas that he had (although he stressed he didn’t have the answers, nor was he the fundraising coordinator but just a fan trying to get things going) some ideas discussed as follows:
The meeting was a good kick off and hopefully something we can build on. A date is still to be set for the next meeting and this will be organized and made public when key players are available.
John would like to thank all who attended. We have 2 cracking nights confirmed with Jan Molby and Bruce Grobelaar and it is expected that these will be a sellout.
Anyone who wishes to help should please make themselves known. It can’t be stressed enough the help that is needed to generate the funds required to help cover running costs, ground improvements & a competitive team budget for a season.
YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!
If you wish to help out in any way please contact a club official or email: contact@colwynbayfc.co.uk
Many thanks for your support.

21-01-08: MURT LEAVES THE BAY FOR SKELMERSDALE
The club announce that this evening we have sold striker Anthony Murt to UniBond side Skelmersdale. In recent weeks we had received several approaches from clubs for Anthony and turned them all down. However Skelmersdale came in with an improved offer for Anthony, who lives ten minutes from Skelmersdale’s ground and doesn't drive. It was agreed to allow him to speak to Skelmersdale over the weekend when terms were agreed. Whilst he has enjoyed his time with the Bay; it was felt to be in everybody's best interests to allow the deal to go through at this time. We would like to thank Skelmersdale's Chairman Frank Hughes and manager Tommy Lawson, who have conducted themselves correctly in their approach to our club for Anthony and we wish Anthony all the best and thank him for this time with us.
16-01-08: TWO MORE SIGNINGS FOR THE BAY
Gary Finley has moved to further strengthen his squad by recruiting Joe Fowler from Barrow. Joe is a versatile twenty one year old that helped Droylsden to promotion to the Conference National last season, after previous experience with Southport and Tranmere Rovers.
In addition Anthony "Bagger" Wright has signed from Vauxhall Motors. The experienced striker helped Hyde United win the UniBond First Division title in 2003/04 and also had success in the LoW helping TNS win that title. His previous clubs also include Wrexham, Barrow and Droylsden.
It is hoped the paperwork will be completed in time for them to be involved at Alsager on Saturday.
14-01-08: ANOTHER LEGEND SIGNS UP
Liverpool FC legend Bruce Grobelaar has now been confirmed as the next guest for a Sportsman’s Evening at Colwyn Bay Football Club on Monday 28th April.
Grobbelaar was signed to play for Liverpool in 1981 by Bob Paisley & was plunged into the daunting role of succeeding Ray Clemence but the eccentric South African-born Zimbabwe international rose to the challenge and was Liverpool's last line of defence in a stream of triumphs at home and abroad. Occasionally his self-confidence on the pitch backfired but his showmanship and exhibitionism could not detract from Grobbelaar's undoubted talent and remarkable agility.
He made more than 600 appearances in 13 years at Anfield, which brought him 13 major medals comprising six League titles, a European Cup, three FA Cup and three League Cup, ironically a total matched by Clemence over his two-club career. Grobbelaar's goal-line "wobble" against Roma in the dramatic 1984 European Cup Final penalty shoot-out, which prompted Graziani to miss, is an enduring memory. He joined Southampton in 1994, later playing for Plymouth, Bury, Lincoln, Motherwell, Chesham United and Northwich Victoria, coaching Zimbabwe
Places for this evening are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment. A table of 10 is £200 or £20 per person

Steve is excited to be involved and about the direction that the club is going in. We are always willing to sit down and talk to people who are interested to get involved with the football club. Clubs such as Colwyn Bay need as many people as possible to contribute. 02-12-07: NORTH WALES COAST FA CUP - CLUB STATEMENT
After much deliberation we have recently informed the North Wales Coast FA of our withdrawal from the NWCFA Challenge Cup for this season.
Due to the fact we play more league games than any other team in the competition, our progress in various cup competitions this season has created a fixture build up that will get worse as the season progresses. The club has taken this decision out of respect to our planned opponents Pwllheli, and the Competition as a whole, we withdraw at this time rather than later (if we had progressed).
Our circumstances this season have been further disadvantaged by the FAW interpretation on player registrations which uniquely affects ourselves in the league in which we compete. These rules prevent us having a wider pool of players to call upon when fixture congestion issues emerge.
30-11-07: COLWYN BAY ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP WITH GREENTHUMB
Colwyn Bay Football club are pleased to announce their latest partnership agreement; this time with GreenThumb Lawn Services.
The club already has a well earned reputation for one of the best playing surfaces around, but has now reached agreement with the turf specialists to ensure the club's facilities are maintained and even more impressive in future, especially when added to the recent ground improvements at Llanelian Road. A comprehensive 12 month programme using the latest techniques have been tailored to meet the needs of the playing surface which when combined with the dedication of Grounds man Elfed Morris will ensure envious looks from other clubs for seasons to come.
Alasdair Boyes, Greethumb’s North Wales Manager "GreenThumb Lawn Service's are happy to announce an exciting new partnership between GreenThumb and Colwyn Bay F.C. We await seeing the pitch improve after our treatments have been applied, and look forward to a productive relationship."

22-11-07: MARGARET JONES
It is with great regret and sadness we have to report that Club director Margaret Jones passed away last night after a short illness. Margaret made a massive contribution to our club down the years with over half a century’s service. She became a key member of the committee that built the club up from the ashes following the problems of the 1960s. In many ways she could be seen as a trail blazer for female involvement in football as it was not fashionable for women to hold senior positions in clubs at that time. A familiar face on match days serving in the canteen it was only in the last few years that she stepped down from that role to concentrate on serving teas in the boardroom. Margaret would attend games home and away, up and down the country until in recent seasons when she attended only the matches at Llanelian Road. She has been a constant at the club through various changes at boardroom level retaining a dignity and carrying a perspective on matters that had to be admired. She will be remembered as someone who put the club interests first on all occasions; not least when making a significant contribution in our battles through the courts with the FAW in the early 1990s.
Margaret will be missed by all at the club.
A minute’s silence will be observed prior to the FA Trophy match this Saturday against Sheffield.
The funeral will be held at St John’s Church Old Colwyn on Wednesday 28th November at 09:45 am.

“I have known Mike for a number of years having worked with him on various projects outside football, so I was delighted when he accepted the position. As with all other roles at the football club he is doing this on a voluntary basis and out of love for the club. It is so important that we project the right image and increase the profile of the club in the community and the marketing assistant role will help us achieve that”.
Having always been passionate about art and design, Mike said he was delighted to be involved in helping out his local football team.
15-11-07: POSTER DISTRIBUTERS WANTED
As part of a drive to increase attendances by making people aware of when games take place, the club is looking for volunteers who would be willing to distribute Match Posters in their local area by putting posters up in the pubs, shops, take-away's and newsagents etc. Posters will be made available by the club and will need to be distributed on a monthly basis. It may only take an hour or two of your time but would provide the club much needed exposure and help encourage people through the gate.
We need match poster distributors to cover the following areas:

Vice Chairman Andy Owens was delighted to hear the news; “The challenge the club faced was significant, but thanks to a tremendous team effort we have surpassed what we set out to do. I would like to pay tribute to the club members and volunteers who have put in hours of work to achieve this grading. In addition the Council and local businesses who have contributed to this project have demonstrated what can be achieved when the community pulls together.”
At the turn of the year the club was faced with a list of improvements to the Llanelian Road ground that had to be completed by July if it was to be able to compete in the UniBond league. Andy Owens made an appeal to supporters at a Fans Forum in February and since that time the ground has been a hive of activity as volunteers have worked weekends and evenings to meet the deadline set by the FA. The club has long had a reputation for the best playing surface on the Coast, but now boasts a 400 seater stand amongst other impressive facilities.
Andy Owens insisted however the club is not resting on its laurels. “We are now putting together a further ground development plan to ensure we can progress to Conference level Football. We are finalising plans to upgrade our floodlights which will also allow Llanelian Road to be a ground for representative matches as well as considering how we can ensure the ground can become a centre for community activities both sporting and social. In addition we are giving the clubhouse a makeover this week to ensure that supporters new and old are guaranteed an enjoyable match day experience.”
Orders for the new kit can be taken at the recently redecorated Club Shop during the game or by contacting Sheila on 07851 197369. The new kit will also be shortly available online through the website www.colwynbayfc.co.uk

Carol Beard commented "Times have moved on and the role is much more sophisticated than it once was with a cold sponge and bucket. A great deal of sports science is involved in ensuring the team can function at the peak of its performance. The club really appreciates this support from Rowlands Pharmacy and again it emphasises how the club and local business can work together."
