CARL LAMB scored his first goal for the club as the Seagulls progressed into the last 16 of the Integro Doodson League Cup with a 1-0 victory at Radcliffe Borough.

They are now at home to Trafford on February 16th for a place in the quarter-finals.

The only goal came after 15 minutes and although Radcliffe appealed strongly for offside, the goal stood and in the end won the match to give the Bay back to back victories for the first time this season.

They started strongly and Josh Sumner, who had an excellent game on the left, was unlucky with a free kick that hit the bar and bounced over, while Jordan Harper was just wide and home keeper Chris Cheetham saved another effort from Sumner.

In the second half Lamb got the ball in the net after going past the keeper, but the flag was already up for offside, and a number of other opportunities were wasted by poor finishing.

That kept Radcliffe in the game and they pressed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages with Bay keeper Kieran Wolland making a couple of important saves while Steve Wilson, who has come on loan from AFC Fylde, headed off the line from a corner after coming on as a second half substitute.

Radcliffe nearly equalised with the last kick of the game from a corner with Glenn Matthews making a crucial block on the line, and the rebound hitting the post before being cleared.

Manager Kev Lynch admitted it wasn’t the best performance on a heavy pitch, but said: “Its another win and a clean sheet which is pleasing and two wins on the bounce gives us a bit of momentum going into the next game.”

The one worry is that Bradley Bauress had to come off with a hamstring strain and he will be assessed at training on Thursday.
