HISTORY OF THE LADIES SET UP
In the year 2001 Steve Cartwright (manager of Colwyn Bay Ladies FC), who was managing a successful boys team, was invited to Bethesda Leisure Centre by Neil Todd and parents to watch a friendly game between Conwy Borough Girls and Rhyl Girls. Whilst at the game plenty of discussion went on and by the end of the night Steve agreed to become the new manager of Conwy Borough, with Neil Todd becoming his assistant.
The Girls, 10 in total, played in football festivals and tournaments throughout North Wales, and soon became very popular and very successful. After a full season with the girls, Steve was asked to manage a Ladies team (Bro Conwy) who soon became Llandudno Junction FC Ladies. With the girls growing in numbers, and the ladies playing friendly matches, Steve resigned from the boys teams to concentrate on girls and ladies football.
At present there are now four girl’s teams, competing in the North Wales Girls League and the club now consists of 48 girls playing football on a regular basis. In the season 2005/06 the ladies moved with Steve to Colwyn Bay FC thus becoming Colwyn Bay Ladies FC The girls remained as Llandudno Junction Girls FC as an independent club, but they will continue to be part of the ladies set up, and our main feeder for the ladies team.
