Defender Callum Ellis was named Man of the Match.
GOALKEEPER Matt Brookes was among the scorers as the Reserves won their Lock Stock Fireworks League Cup tie 4-0 at Llanberis (Oct 1).
A long clearance out of his hands ended up in the net as it bounced over the opposition keeper as he came off his line to collect.
Colwyn Bay’s other scorers in an excellent win against the side Colwyn Bay beat in the final last season, were Edward Parry, Adam Carpenter and Ole Desay.
The home side started the better, causing Bay problems with some physical play in midfield, before firing in a few early strikes from distance – all off target, but the warning signs were there that the hosts were up for the game.
Then in the 22nd minute the deadlock was broken, against the run of play. Jac Pardanjac fired over a corner from the left side, which allowed right-back EDWARD PARRY to power a header low into the near post, giving the ‘keeper no chance.
Llanberis responded well, forcing a few corners of their own and taking a few more hopeful strikes from long range, none of which forced Matt Brookes into any meaningful save.
The rest of the first half was a tight and cagey affair, with most of the game being played out in the central midfield area, with both teams struggling to really take control of the match.
In the second half and Huw Jones and Callum Ellis defended brilliantly against a good period of early pressure from Llanberis, both in turn making fantastic blocks to deny Llanberis certain goals.
Having weathered the storm, the Bay then made it 2-0 after a brilliant quick set piece routine which allowed attacking midfielder ADAM CARPENTER to drill a low shot across goal and into the far corner of the net.
It was quickly 3-0…. and in the most bizarre circumstances. Goalkeeper MATT BROOKES cleared a long ball into the opposition half, only for his opposite number to completely misjudge the flight of the ball as it bounced over him and into the open goal behind him.
Llanberis began to throw bodies forward in a desperate attempt to get back in the game, but the Bay back four remained strong and resolute, giving absolutely nothing away.
Late in the day, OLE DESAY rounded off a superb team move with a thunderbolt of a half-volley high into the roof of the net to make it 4-0.
Another excellent team performance means it’s now back-to-back wins for the Reserves, who go through to the next round of the cup.
