The parents of the late Gary Speed, Roger and Carol, were presented to the teams before Bay’s final pre-season match against a Leeds United XI.
Bay Vice President John Martin, who was a friend of Gary’s, had invited Mr and Mrs Speed to Llanelian Road for the game.
“Our crowd gave them a terrific ovation and on our behalf Roger Speed presented Leeds with a plaque to mark the occasion,” John Martin said.
“The officials of Leeds had taken the trouble to source a shirt from the era that Gary Speed was starring for them.
“The shirt, complete with Speed 11 on the back, was presented to Roger and Carol, something that Roger will treasure.”
The clubs have held talks about making the game an annual pre-season fixture for a Gary Speed Memorial Trophy.
