Two goals for Chris Gahgan

TWO brilliant second half goals by Chris Gahgan saw Colwyn Bay secure their first points of the new season with a 3-1 home win over Hyde United.

Hyde went close early on when full back James Burke’s shot struck a post and Bay keeper Shaun Pearson made a fine save to deny Chris Amadi, but Colwyn Bay took the lead on 30 minutes when DANNY ANDREWS cut in from the right and rifled an unstoppable shot past Hyde Keeper Dylan Forth.

Will Jones was close to adding a second with a shot that rippled the top of the net just before half-time.

Hyde equalised two minutes into the second half with a well struck free kick by James Cadman and looked dangerous for a while, but CHRIS GAHGAN restored the lead on 62 minutes when he cleverly made space for himself before firing in a shot from 18 yards which the keeper could only help into the net.

Gareth Grant, who was signed on contract along with Tom Schofield after the game, saw a header hit the bar and Gaz Burnett went close with a shot just wide after a good run.

Hyde threw defender Adam Jones up front in a four man attack to try and force an equaliser in the closing stages, but CHRIS GAHGAN wrapped up the points with a brilliantly struck first time volley from a right wing cross for the third goal in added time.

Adam Whitlock made his senior debut as a substitute for the last 10 minutes.

Manager Paul Moore said: “It was important we bounced back after last weekend’s defeat and we scored three really good goals to take the points.

“We knew how they would line up with three strong players at the back, but we felt they would be suspect against pace so we went with a 4-2-1-3 formation to push up on their back three and stop their wing backs getting forward. I thought that worked well, although the final ball let us down at times.

“Its three good points and puts us in a good frame of mind for the FA Cup game on Saturday.”
