Defeat in opening home game

COLWYN BAY lost 2-0 to Chorley in their opening home game of the Vanarama Conference North season after being hit by pre-match problems.
Several players were caught up in jams on the M56, a couple arriving after the game had kicked off, and were unable to do any meaningful pre-match warm-up.
The Bay then conceded a goal from a penalty on 38 minutes, with Chorley adding a second with a Paul Jarvis header on 70 minutes to secure the points.
“The pre-match preparation is really important and we just didn’t have that due to the motorway crash,” said the manager afterwards.
“I’d like to say that was the reason for the defeat, but too many important players in our side had an off night.
“Give credit to Chorley. They won promotion last season and have a group of players who know how to win football games, while we were a bit na├»ve at times.
“It is disappointing because I know we can play much better than that and we need to respond against Boston on Saturday.
“We are still looking for our first goal as well as our first win of the campaign, but there is no panic yet because we are creating chances and sooner or later have to start taking them.”
A couple of times Rob Hopley put great balls across the face of the goal, with no Bay colleague able to add the finishing touch.
The Seagulls also failed to capitalise when Chorley keeper Sam Ashton could only parry a shot from Jake Parker and nobody was on hand to turn the loose ball into the net.
Josh Ollerenshaw made a couple of good stops for Colwyn Bay, but conceded the penalty seven minutes before half-time when he clattered into Chris Almond in a failed bid to get to the ball and James Dean scored from the spot.
Chorley always looked a threat when they attacked after that, but Colwyn Bay we just beginning to put them under some pressure in the second half when fullback Adam Dodd broke down the left and his perfect cross found Jarvis unmarked to head the killer second goal.
