Five defeats from the last seven games may have left Colwyn Bay staring down at the Evostik Premier Division’s relegation places, but Saturday’s home game against Stamford represents a great opportunity for Ashley Hoskin’s men to gain a much needed win.
It has been at home where Colwyn Bay have played their best football this season. In between four defeats, the Seagulls have beaten Hyde 2-0 and gained a creditable 1-1 in their last fixture in front of their own fans against 2nd placed Nantwich Town. Clearly buoyed by the home support, Bay supporters could play a huge part in Saturday’s game.
Colwyn look an excellent price at evens to win the battle between the 21st and 23rd placed teams, as they look to pierce a Stamford defence which is the leakiest in the league, having already conceded 38 times.
Interestingly, Colwyn have scored at least two goals in 50% of their matches this season, and look a cracking bet at 3/1 to repeat this feat on Saturday. This is the sort of odds you would expect from the fruit machine games at Fruity Reels, not those of a home side in a football match.
Whilst goals are expected ahead of the big game, Seagulls fans may have to be patient, as statistically Stamford are more resilient, and Colwyn less potent, in the first half of games.
Under 40% of Colwyn goals have come in the first 45 minutes of their matches, whilst Stamford have held out for a half time clean sheet in over 25% of the clubs fixtures. A half time score line of 0-0 looks a big price at 7/2.
