Further to the abandonment of yesterday’s FA Trophy tie against Altrincham, Colwyn Bay Football Club would like to clarify the key events.
When the referee was injured and unable to continue the club attempted without success to locate a suitably qualified individual to allow the tie to be completed.
The rules are explicit:
Rule 19: PROVISIONS CONCERNING MATCH OFFICIALS
(a)(i) “Match officials shall be appointed by The Association. Neither past nor present members of either of the contending clubs shall be eligible.
(iii) ” In the event of any match officials being incapacitated, the two clubs shall agree to a substitute, providing one is available who is currently eligible to officiate in a league equivalent to the lowest level of football in which either of the two teams participate.”
The club would like to point out that no volunteer was eligible given that rule.
Club officials were in contact with the FA for additional guidance and further to this, the referee chose to abandon the game and refer matter to the FA.
Under the FA rules governing abandoned matches, the match will be replayed at Llanelian Road on Tuesday evening (7.45pm kick off) – although the club is currently awaiting confirmation of this from the FA.
The circumstances were regrettable and the club is very aware of the inconvenience and frustrations felt by supporters when games are postponed or abandoned.
Admission prices for the rearranged match have been reduced to £5 and £3 (concessions).
