Boxing Day win for Bay

Marc Williams’ 26th minute goal saw Colwyn Bay beat Vauxhall Motors 1-0 at Llanelian Road in the Skrill North on Thursday. That’s four wins on the spin for Frank Sinclair’s side and is the first time they have beaten the Ellesmere Port side in five meetings.
The Seagulls led 1-0 at half-time with a goal after 26 minutes by Marc Williams after having the better of much of the first period.
Rob Hopley got past the last defender to be in on goal and although his shot was parried by the keeper, Williams was following up to score from the rebound.
Marc Williams also had the ball the net earlier from a corner but was flagged offside, while Motors keeper Zak Jones made a good save from an Anthony Stephens free kick.
Jamie Ellison’s header back across goal from another free kick went narrowly wide with Marc Williams sliding in at the far post but unable to turn the ball into the goal.
Jamie Crowther was then narrowly wide with a shot from the edge of the area.
Vauxhall came more into the game in the second half with Bay keeper Chris Sanna saving well from Danny Fearnehough and the visitors having a loud shout for a penalty in a goal area scramble waved away by the referee.
Colwyn Bay should have doubled their lead on the hour but Sean Williams lifted his shot over the bar after being set up by Gareth Evans.
Substitute Cameron Darkwah thundered a shot against the crossbar from a short Sean Williams free kick, Tom Smyth had a shot deflected over the bar off a defender and Marc Williams was denied by a fine save from Zak Jones after taking a return pass from Hopley.
Vauxhall did get the ball in the net but the flag was already up for offside against Tom Rutter, but the Bay were lucky Danny Taylor’s diving defensive header rebounding to safety off a post.
Chris Sanna also made three or four excellent saves to keep his third clean sheet in four games and help Bay cling onto the points.
