Bay out of luck in late onslaught

A LATE onslaught in which Jack Hindle saw a header hit the underside of the bar and stay out (see top picture), couldn’t  rescue the Seagulls from a 2-1 home defeat to Droylsden (Nov 4).

The Bay had the better of a goalless first half with Luke Horrocks, Danny Andrews and Louis Barnes all having shots saved, while Louis was desperately close with a dipping angled shot that dropped just wide of the far post.

Astley Mulholland had a shot blocked from Jack Hindle’s cross, while a Will Booth header and shots from Andrews (twice) and Jack Hindle were off target.

At the other end Matt Cooper made an excellent diving save to keep out a goalbound shot from Ciaran Kilheeney in Droylsden only effort on target.

The visitors, however,  controversially went in front on 48 minutes. Luke Horrocks looked to be fouled in midfield, but with the Bay players clearly expecting a free kick the referee waved play on and quick ball forward found Liam Caddick  free in the area to score.

Two or three debatable offside decisions also went against the Bay in the second half, but  after Matt Cooper had made another fine save in a one-on-one with Kilheeney, the Seagulls drew level on 58 minutes with a fine individual goal from Danny Andrews who skipped through the Droylsden defence before slipping the ball past the keeper.

Jack Hindle had put a good chance over the bar and Kyle Jacobs skimmed the Droylsden bar with a screamer, but the visitors regained the lead on 62 minutes through Ciaran Kilheeney from a quickly taken throw in.

With Jamie Rainford and Danny Bartle introduced from the bench, Colwyn Bay piled forward in the last 20 minutes and Jack Hindle was really unlucky with a header from Astley Mulholland’s cross which beat the keeper but bounced down and out off underside of the bar.

Droylsden keeper Ritchie Branagan then made two excellent saves from Astley Mulholland and Jamie Rainford to help his side hang on to the three points and extend their unbeaten run to eight games.
