Gaz Burnett was goal scorer and goal maker against Denbigh.

GARY BURNETT scored one goal and had an assist in three others as the Seagulls beat Denbigh Town 5-2 in their latest pre-season friendly.

They bossed much of the game, played some excellent passing football at times, and were 5-0 up before Denbigh snatched two consolation goals in the last four minutes.

Burnett drew the foul from which Luke Denson opened the scoring direct from the free kick on 26 minutes and nine minutes later Burnett broke into the area and went past a defender before crossing for Will Jones to score the second from close range.

The Bay, even with some players missing, had nine efforts at goal in that first half to just two by Denbigh. Jones and Burnett had shots saved by Denbigh keeper Elliott Power,  Tom Schofield had a shot deflected for a corner after being set up by Chris Gaghan and Steve Wilson, Josh Sumner and Burnett were all off target with other efforts.

After Gaghan had a header blocked in the goalmouth, Burnett got the third goal himself from Josh Sumner’s low cross and then Burnett provided the perfect  cross for Will Booth to head his first goal for the club.

Excellent build-up play, involving new signing Scott Bakkor, ended with George Mannion crossing for Rhys Bowers to also get his first goal for the club with a sharp finish.

Denbigh grabbed some consolation with those two late goals from an Alan Bull penalty and an audacious free kick from the half-way line by Ade Dobson who spotted Simon Williams off his line and sent his free kick dipping over the back-pedalling keeper into the net.

The Bay will face a much stiffer test on Tuesday (July 26th, 7:45pm) when they are at home to a Bala Town side that has already been in Europa League action this summer (losing 4-0 on aggregate to Swedish full timers AIK), but manager Paul Moore expects to have Danny Andrews, Gareth Grant and Mark Keddie back in the squad for the Bala game.

Bala won 5-0 at Caernarfon Town today.

Colwyn Bay: Simon Williams, Luke Denson (Drew Matthews), Louis Corrigan, Kyle Armstrong, Tom Hardwick, Steve Wilson (Chris Bibby), Chris Gaghan (George Mannion), Tom Schofield (Will Booth), Will Jones (Scott Bakkor), Gary Burnett (Rhys Bowers), Josh Sumner (trialist).

THE Reserves lost 5-1 away to a strong Runcorn Town side.
